Ever been called “narcissist” jokingly by loved ones? Or caught disapproving looks for taking selfies or admiring ourselves in mirrors?
We can be labelled as narcissistic whenever we speak or act in a way that seems to prioritize our needs above others. Just like how someone who may be generous or kind, can be labelled as self-sacrificing, or people-pleasing.
But the real question is, how do we identify a “real” narcissist? Especially when we might have to spend the rest of our lives with one? Here are 10 signs that you may find helpful!
1. They have few long-lasting friendships.
“Yeah, I’ve never had many friends. They were never worth it after a while.”
2. They brag a lot about their accomplishments.
“I’m only 26 but I own a house, a car, and am thinking of getting a yacht. You can’t even imagine how successful I am.”
3. They regard themselves as being above others.
“Of course, I would succeed. I’m simply built different. No one can compare.”
4. They’re ALWAYS more important.
No matter who they meet, where they are, or what circumstance.
5. They don’t see it.
“I’m not narcissistic. I’m just telling the truth about others, and you.”
6. They act like it’s their grandfather’s road (entitled).
“I mean, this is ridiculous. You took 5 minutes to take my order. Do you know how busy I am?”
7. They constantly fish for compliments.
“Don’t you agree? I mean, I think I’m pretty amazing.”
8. They seem uncaring when you share your troubles.
“Why are you crying over a dead dog? Just get another.”
9. They are “special”.
“Look, you wouldn’t understand. I think only someone who has achieved my level of success would be able to understand me.”
10. They rarely apologise.
“What’s there to say ‘sorry’ for? You know I’m right.”
