Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3)

The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) is a standardized personality assessment used in various settings (e.g., clinical, forensic, organizational). It is available in English and Spanish.

Latest Version

Currently in its 3rd edition, the MMPI is back with various improvements. As the MMPI-2’s norms dated way back to 1989, comparing current scores to the norm scores set during 1989 might result in unfair and possibly inaccurate assessments of personality and psychopathology.

Updated Norms

The MMPI-3 is now back with updated norms, with this now allowing for more accurate assessments and comparisons. In addition, these norms include different populations for comparison, with norms for clients from outpatient private practice clinics too.

New Scales

The MMPI-3 is also updated with new scales (Eating Concerns, Compulsivity, Impulsivity and Self-Importance) to better reflect current concerns. There are currently 52 scales used in the MMPI-3, hence allowing for a comprehensive assessment of personality.

Reduced Assessment Time

Lastly, the time taken has reduced, with the test taking less than an hour – it takes approximately 25-35 minutes to complete the MMPI-3 on computer and 35-50 minutes by paper and pencil. This would help to reduce fatigue effects when completing the test.
